Stop by Lori Whitlock's blog today and check out my tutorial on welding shapes into a mini book. I share tips on how to create tabs on the end of the row in order to make your mini book as long as you need it.
I've used Lori's Here and Now paper and embellishment collection to cut and decorate my mini book! Love the chalkboard elements!
I also wanted to let you know about a new class that I am teaching over at My Creative Classroom starting July 17th.
I just wanted to let everyone know that Friday will be the last day that you can sign up for my Creative Silhouette Series- Cards class at My Creative Classroom. In the class you will be learning how to create the card below, from scratch, no die cut files needed, just the Silhouette software that came with your machine! Pretty cool, huh?
Cost: $14, Registration ends, March 22, 2013. Once you sign up the material, 4 videos and 4 step by step instruction sheets, are available to you forever at MCC.
So, come with me, and find out all the things that you can do with your Silhouette!
Welcome to Tuesday's with Lori Whitlock. I have some cute Easter ideas for you and a short step-by-step Silhouette tutorial on how to create the mat on the flap of the envelope. I love making Easter projects and as soon as I saw the Chick Candy Dispenser, I knew that I just had to cut it out.
I followed Lori's instructions here on her YouTube Channel to put it together and then added a few of my own embellishments. Don't you just love googly eyes? I think that they add so much personality to my little chick.
The front of the box opens up to reveal your treat of choice. I had just picked up these yummy Hershey's Kisses in Easter colors. The front will close and then you carry the box around by the handle at the top.
I added the feathers on the back of the box. I had to use some really good glue to get them to stick but once they were dry everything was fine. I used orange glitter paper on the beak and the feet. Sometimes, those little details can really make a project pop!
You can't have a treat box without a card, can you? So I looked through Lori's card files and found this one which I think is perfect. It gave me a way to incorporate the cardstock that I used on the chick into the card so everything is matching!! I love how simple it is too.
And since it was so easy to cut out this card, I decided to make a matching envelope. Again, I used the same yellow cardstock to cut it out. What fun to have a bright yellow envelope. I used the fancy envelope. I love the beautiful flap. Because I wanted to dress it up even more, I cut out a mat for my flap.
So here is an easy way to make a mat for your envelope.
Open up the envelope that you are using. Next, click the knife tool and cut the flap off. Start at the top of the envelope at the score line. Click your mouse at the beginning of the cut and keep holding the mouse down as you scroll down the score line. Once you reach the bottom of the flap, let go off your mouse.
At this point you will be able to click on the larger piece of the envelope and seperate it from the flap. Delete the larger piece of the envelope. You won't need it anymore.
Click the the Offset tool in the top right hand menu. Then click the flap on your mat. Go back to the Offset panel and click Internal Offset. Then change the amount of Offset Distance. The amount to offset it is a personal preference but I usually dial mine in anywhere in between .07-.1 When you are happy with the offset amount, click apply.
You should then have two seperate pieces. Pull the smaller of the two pieces away with your mouse and delete the larger. The smaller piece is your mat and you will be able to cut it out in a different color than your envelope if you like for a fun, dramatic embellishment.
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you can use the Silhouette tutorial on your next envelope.
If you are interested in learning more about what your Silhouette can do, please check out my new class at My Creative Classroom. It is called Creative Silhouette Series: Cards. I'm a new teacher at MCC and it's also my first online class so I am really excited. The class starts this Wednesday, March 13, 2013. I hope to see you there.
Well, my December Daily is all ready to go and I have completed my first page. Some of you might remember that I am teaching a class on how to put this album together, Saturday, December 8th, so I wanted to show a little of the process to those who are participating so that they can gather their own things for each day this week so during class time they can catch up on their own album.
Here is the cover which has been finished for some time and I have already shared.
Here is a picture of Day 1. I wish I had thought to take a picture of it before I started the finishing process but I forgot to. I did take a before picture of Day 2 so at least you can see the transformation for that page.
I am using the Teresa Collins Christmas Countdown Kit which is brand new this year. I absolutely love it. The size is perfect and I love the three ring binder so I can add as many extra pages as I want. There are three tabbed dividers. In the first section I will have all of my daily pages. In the second section I am planning on documenting special foods and recipes that we like during the holidays and the third tab will be for all the family gatherings we will be attending when we go to Florida to visit after Christmas.
A December Daily should be a no stress fun way to document one or two things that are happening in your life on each day of December. Some days I will take pictures, like I did today, and other days I will fill my page with thoughts, or quotes, or other important information. I think the key is to have fun.
A goal of mine this year is to do more journaling than I normally do. I have a hard time with journaling and so I am going to take this opportunity to really challenge myself.
Here is the start of Page 2. I have put some embellishments and the date on each of the pages but I am sure that once finished it won't be as bare.
So here are some things to think about as you prepare for your December Daily album.
Did something special happen that I could document either with a picture or journaling.
Do I have a tradion that I want to document.
Are there any goals that I have for December that I want to document.
Did I get together with family or friends to do something special.
Did I watch a holiday movie or show that day.
My favorite holiday things, such as movies, songs, colors, decorations, presents, traditions.
My holiday shopping experience.
My wish list or that of my kids.
Something special that I did for others.
Something special that someone did for me or my family.
Remembering holidays of the past.
Oh the list could go on and on, but hopefully that is a good start for you. I used December 1st to document a tradition that we do each year on the first day of the month and how Garrett got to participate for the first time but maybe you will have something different that you want to document.
Please stop by tomorrow so you can see Day 2. I will try to post a new page each day but if I don't I will be sure to catch up the day after. For those taking my class, I suggest that you have envelopes or sandwich baggies labeled for Day 1- Day 7 and be sure to put down your thoughts or ideas plus any pictures that you might have for that day inside the envelope. It will help you stay ahead of the game.
Supplies you will need for class: (please check back as this list might change)
paper trimmer
scissors
favorite adhesive for small things
foam adhesive (if you know me, I use these a lot!)
black journaling pen
circle punches
ruler
glue dots, craft and mini size
small Xyron 'X'
bone folder
Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher and staples or small stapler
As of right now, there are only 3 spots left in the class. Please contact me as soon as possible if you would like to either get a kit or participate in the class.
I am so excited to share that I have put together a December Daily Kit/Class this year. I have chosen to use Teresa Collins' kit with a lot of extras. I'm still putting the final touches on the inside pages but I thought I might share a picture of the cover. The book is a three ring binder that measures about 8x10. Everything that you need besides your pictures and your basic supplies will be included. I promise you are going to love it!
The class will be held at The Scrapbook Princess on December 8th, which I know is a little past the first of December but it just happens to be how the schedule works out. If you are attending, I will be helping you get prepared for the first week prior to the class by sending you an email giving you tips about how to document your days without your book in your hands. There are a limited number of kits available so if you are interested in one please email me right away. If you can't make it to the class you are more than welcome to buy a kit. Pictures of each page will be provided.
I'm really excited about this project. It will be the first time that I do a December Daily officially and I can't wait to get started. I'll be posting more as it gets closer to the date but don't wait to sign up, these kits will go fast!
I love being able to create fun and unique gifts for the people I know. There are so many ideas that you use to create with these tubes from SRM Stickers. I love that you can fill them with so many options.
Candy of course is my favorite but you will find that I have used anything from pencils to lemonade before in them. You can find more pictures of my card and tubes on the SRM Sticker blog today and even more ideas from the other team members. You will be amazed by the variety of ideas. Yesterday, a craft kit gift, packaged in tubes was featured.
A couple quick tips:
The ornaments were cut out using a Silhouette file by Lori Whitlock called Christmas Ornaments Simple. SRM Border stickers were used to decorate the ornaments. I punched a hole through the top of the ornament and thread silver thread through the hole. I scrunched a bit of tulle, sandwiched it between the ornament and tube and tied it altogether to the tube. Then I decorated the tubes with more border stickers, twine, and tags. The little tags also have SRM Stickers Sentiments on them. The card was created with paper by Stampin Up! and punched snowflakes. Large one is from Martha Stewart. The Christmas Cheer sentiment was from SRM Stickers.
I will be teaching at The Scrapbook Princess on October 20th for the Santa's Workshop where we will be making some fun gifts using these SRM Stickers tubes. I hope you can join us!
What a great day!! I hosted a World Card Making Day Party from 10-2 at my house in my new "classroom" and had the best time. I taught a free class making the two cards you see here on my blog and then we spent the rest of the time chatting, sharing great organizing tips, and making more cards for the Operation Write Home organization. Between the seven people that attended we are donating a total of 26 cards. Yeah!!
Thanks, from the bottom of my heart, to all that attended and made it such a fun time!! We will definitely be doing it again soon!
In the class we talked about using negative space as a design element. Then we took the piece of paper that we used to punch the hearts out of and made a second card out of that.
Sorry for the terrible pictures. It really is the same papers. I just took the pictures at different times.
Just wanted to share a little sneak peek of one of the cards that we will be creating in my free class this coming Saturday, October 6th, in celebration of World Card Making Day. We will be talking about using negative space and elements on your cards. I can't wait to share some fun tips and tricks for using negative space.
More information can be found here. R.S.V.P. by email here.

Today I am also sharing another layout about Garrett's First Birthday party. I have so many good pictures it's going to take me some time to scrap them all. Love how they turned out too and I think they go fabulously with this Bella Blvd Birthday Boy paper.
What a fun day!!
I still have a few double page layouts in this paper left at Simply Scrapbook Pages. You can order yours here.
Recently I had announced that I was picked to be on the Webster's Pages Certified Educator's Team. So today I am giving a sneak peek at the project I will be teaching for my first class at The Scrapbook Mania's Fun Fall Crop.
In this class you will be making this beautiful 2013 desktop calendar. The pages are made from Webster's Pages Park Lane. We will also be using their trim, petals, and embellishments. You will see how easy it is to put together as a gift for each family member and friend.
I hope to see you there.
Here is the description of the class.
The end of year 2012 is quickly approaching and so it is time to start thinking about calendars for next year. In this class you will make a gorgeous desktop calendar using Webster's Pages product that doubles as a mini album as well. The outside is decorated in beautiful papers and flowers and stands up solidly on it's own. Inside, on one side, there are pages for pictures and embellishments, and on the other side there is a 2013 monthly calendar page for each month. This desktop calendar will make you smile all year long and also makes a great gift for that special someone for birthdays or as a holiday gift.
Cost: $22.00
Each student should bring a trimmer, small scissors, ruler, favorite adhesive, mini glue dots, foam adhesive, corner rounder, white gel pen (Gelly Roll med. by Sakura recommended), and if you have one, a Bind it All by Zutter (not required).
