Simon Says Stamps Challenge - Stars and Stripes

Whew, the last couple of days has been a whirlwind of activity. My sweet friends at Scrapbook Mania gave me a surprise baby shower.  It was awesome.  I had so much fun and the gifts I got were amazing!!  Thanks to all.  My mom came into town for my daughter's high school graduation and we got to spend a little time together doing baby stuff and stopping by the knit shop in town.  Then we had graduation, a wonderful cookout and my mother-in-law and niece here for a couple of days for Lexi's graduation.  Everyone left this morning so I have been working on straightening the house and catching up.

But first I want to share with you today's wonderful challenge at Simon Says Stamps Challenge blog.  Our challenge this week is to use stars and stripes.  Such an easy challenge, in my opinion.  Striped paper is one of my favorite papers to use and stars are everywhere right now.  

 

This is the card I gave to my daughter for graduation.  I actually added the words Class of 2011 to the flag with stamps but didn't get a picture of it afterwards.  The stars are cut from Petaloo glitter paper out of a Bigz Sizzix die.  I love both products so much.  The glitter paper comes in all different colors and is so easy to use. The 6x6 paper is from Echo Park called Little Boy.

Simon Says Stamp Challenge - Sparkle and Shine

Sparkle and Shine is the name of our challenge this week on the Simon Says Stamp Challenge blog.  All of the Simon Says Stamp Challenge blog design team members used Tattered Angel Glimmer Mist to jazz up our cards and they all turned out so beautiful.  I actually changed my card style this week and opted not to use my Copic markers to color in a stamp.  Instead I used the Glimmer Mist to stamp some Hero Art and Penny Black stamps.  A very dreamy artsy look I think.

So let me tell you how I created this look.  First I took some off white paper from a Strathmore Multi Media Journal that I have.  Then I sprayed the bottom half of the paper with Tattered Angels Sun Sister Glimmer Mist.  Using the Glimmer Mist, Patina, and a Tattered Angels Glimmer Screen. (These are not the exact stencils but is a great started set) I then sprayed the top half of the card.  You can see the white areas the stencil left behind.  I like to blot my paper after I spray the mist so that I get a more even color but the spray dots is a cool look too.  

After I heat set and dry the paper I was ready to stamp my text.  I used the Hero Arts Happy Definition background stamp to do this.  I sprayed the Patina Glimmer mist all over the background stamp and then laid it on the paper.  It creates a smudged text but is perfect for the look I was going for.  Then, using a paint brush, I painted Tattered Angels Sun Sisters Glimmer mist onto my Penny Black Coneflower stamp and stamped it two times to create the focal image.

The sentiment comes from a clear stamp set from Tim Holtz called Nature's Elements, and I stamp it in Memento Tuxedo black ink. For the doodling on the outside lines, I used my Copic Multiliner pen in black.  A few pearls, from Hero Arts Pearl and Gem set in Sea, finishes off the shimmering look and feel of the card.

Simon Says Stamp Challenge - Here Comes the Stork

In celebration of Heidi's baby coming any day now, the Simon Says Stamp Challenge blog design team are making cards for the arrival of the stork!!  So the challenge on the challenge blog this week is to make a baby card.  I used a Mo Manning stamp of a fairy baby which I think is just the cutest.

Simon Says Stamp Challenge- Paper Piecing

 

Before I get into our new challenge this week on the Simon Says Stamp Challenge blog I want to thank everyone for all of the wonderful comments that I received on last week's entry.  They were so much fun to read and I appreciate them so much.  Please be on the lookout for the announcement of the winner of the blog hop.   I will be posting it soon.

The challenge this week o the Simon Says Stamp Challenge blog is use paper piecing or paper piercing.  I have paper pieced the dress on my little girl stamp.  This technique is so easy yet delivers some fun and dramatic results.  Just stamp your image and color as normal and then stamp it again on patterned paper.  Cut out the part you want to pop up from the patterned paper and attach on top of the base image with foam dots. Use this technique on as many parts of the image as you would like.
